Extra time due to illness
Have you been ill? Then you can ask DUO for extra time to integrate.
You can also ask for extra time if a close relative has been ill. This does not apply to all relatives. It only applies to yourself or your:
- partner
- son/daughter, stepson/stepdaughter, or son or daughter in law
- father/mother, or father or mother in law.
Conditions
- The illness lasted for more than 3 months.
- You or your sick relative were treated by a doctor in the Netherlands.
- You could not integrate in time because of the illness.
- Your integration period started at least 2.5 years ago.
Extra time once
Did you already get extra time for the same period you were ill? Then you are not eligible again.
Apply
- Complete one of the forms. Add the supporting documents.
- Send the form with the supporting documents to DUO. Instructions are on the form.
- Within 8 weeks DUO decides if you get extra time to integrate.
Supporting documents to include
- Send your medical file or your relative’s. You can get it from your family physician (GP) for free.
- Send a list of your medication, if you or your relative used any. You can get this list from your pharmacy. The list needs to be stamped by your pharmacy.
- Were you or your relative treated by a different doctor, for instance in hospital? If so, ask this doctor for a letter about the illness. This is called a medical statement.
No supporting documents
Are you unable to collect the supporting documents yourself? We can collect them for you. However, processing your application could then take as much as 3 months longer.
Complete the ‘Machtiging voor opvragen gezondheidsgegevens’ authorisation form and include this with your application.
