If you were ill yourself, these are the conditions for getting extra time:

• You were ill for more than 3 months.
• You were treated for the illness by a doctor in the Netherlands.
• You could not integrate because of the illness. For example because you were unable to go to school or take exams for a long time.
• Your integration period started at least 2.5 years ago.

Did you already get extra time to integrate? You can’t ask for extra time twice for the same period.

If a close relative of yours was ill, these are the conditions for getting extra time:

• A close relative of yours was ill for more than 3 months. Close relatives are:
  • your partner
  • your daughter or daughter-in-law
  • your son or son-in-law
  • your mother or mother-in-law
  • your father or father-in-law.
• Your sick relative was treated by a doctor in the Netherlands.
• You could not integrate because of your relative’s illness. For example because you were unable to go to school or take exams for a long time.

Supporting documents

1. Medical file

You medical file contains all the doctor’s information about your health. Contact your general practitioner (GP) or family physician (‘huisarts’) for this file.

2. Med list

If you use medication for your illness, DUO needs a list of your medication. This list needs to be stamped by your pharmacy. Contact your pharmacy for your med list.

3. Letter from specialist

If you are being treated by a medical specialist , ask for a letter describing the course of your illness. Explain to the specialist what you need the letter for.

If you are no longer being treated by a specialist, you may not be able to get such a letter. If so, you do not need to include the letter.

Apply

1. Complete the 'Aanvragen verlenging inburgeringstermijn door ziekte van uzelf' form. Add the supporting documents.
2. Send the form with the supporting documents to DUO. Instructions are on the form.
3. DUO decides if you get extra time to integrate.
4. You will receive a notice within 8 weeks.

No supporting documents

Are you unable to collect the supporting documents yourself? Then complete the ‘Machtiging voor opvragen gezondheidsgegevens’ authorisation form and include this with your application instead.
