How much does integration cost?

In order to integrate, you usually follow a course and take an exam. The course and the exam cost money.

How to pay for your integration

How you pay for your integration, depends on when you started integrating.

Asylum status holder

  • If you are an , the municipality pays for your course.
  • The first 2 attempts of each exam are free. But not if you take the exam at a lower level than stated in your PIP. A higher level is allowed.
  • Do you need more than 2 attempts? Then you have to pay for the extra attempts. You cannot borrow money from DUO.
  • If you pass the exam at the first attempt, you can take it again at a higher level.

No asylum status holder

Are you not an asylum status holder, but did you for instance come to the Netherlands to live with a family member? Then you have a choice:

How much does the participation statement cost?

If you are you required to integrate under the 2021 civic integration act ('Wet inburgering 2021'), the participation statement (PVT) is free.

Are you required to integrate under the 2013 civic integration act? And are you an ? Then the participation statement (PVT) is free. If you are not an asylum status holder, the participation statement costs €150.

Money for child care

Did you receive a letter from DUO that you must integrate and do your children attend child care? And are you taking an integration course or Nt2 course at a school listed on zoekinburgerschool.nl Link opent externe pagina ? If so, you may be eligible for a reimbursement from the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration (‘Belastingdienst’). This is called child care allowance (‘kinderopvangtoeslag’). 

DUO informs the Tax and Customs Administration about your course. Often DUO receives this information directly from your school. If you want to provide this information to DUO yourself, you can use the ‘Verzoek registratie van inschrijfgegevens voor de kinderopvangtoeslag’ form.

Travel expenses

Did you choose a course outside your home town? Some municipalities will pay for your travel expenses, but not all. Ask your municipality.
